RURAL RESIDENTS SAID NO TO ROADSIDE GARBAGE COLLECTION
One topic that got raised at the Speed All Candidates event on Oct 1st was about the survey conducted by Northumberland County to determine whether rural Ward 2 Port Hope residents wanted to keep the Canton Transfer Station – or to close it and instead receive roadside garbage pickup.
The results of the County survey are now in and reveal that 65% of our rural residents were happy with the current situation and wanted to keep the Canton Transfer Station. By contrast, 35% wanted it closed and to receive roadside garbage pickup instead.
The majority rules, and so the transfer station will be kept and things will remain the same.
Please note that all garbage and recycling collection (whether curbside or from the transfer station) in both the Urban Area and Rural Area of Port Hope is managed by the County of Northumberland.
